Pork Barrel BBQ sauces are one of the best barbecue sauces on the market. They are quickly becoming a staple in grocery stores and Costco’s across America. Heath and Brett have been tearing up the barbecue competition circuit in the mid-Atlantic region. I have gotten a chance to really get to know the Pork Barrel BBQ guys, and their passion for creating great barbecue is extremely infectious, so when I got a bottle of their “Mustard” barbecue sauce I was seriously excited to give it a try.

For those who aren’t familiar with Pork Barrel BBQ, their journey down that path began in early 2006 during a heated budget debate in the United States Senate. Bret and Heath were two fatigued Senate staffers working late into the night discussing the late night dinner options on Capitol Hill.
While they ordered pizza we dreamed of a delicious plate of smoked meat from one of the numerous legendary BBQ joints back home in Missouri and wished one of these joints would open in Washington, D.C. At the same time they were dreaming of ribs and brisket Senators had engaged in a debate over the merits of earmarks, which are better known in Washington as pork barrel spending projects. At that very moment their dinner conversation merged with the debate over pork barrel spending and an idea suddenly popped into their heads and the foundation was laid for what would become Pork Barrel BBQ.
Review and Rating of Pork Barrel’s Mustard BBQ Sauce
I haven’t tried a mustard based barbecue sauce in a long time. I have sticked to tomato and vinegar based barbecue sauces, but Pork Barrel’s mustard based barbecue sauce made me really think about how much mustard based barbecue sauces are amazing and something that you should make sure that you ALWAYS have a bottle at your disposal. I love Pork Barrel’s mustard based barbecue sauce. The sauce had some deep and complex flavors and it led to me wanting to have more. I tried the sauce with some sausages and the sauce meshed very well together, actually it was a match made in heaven. The mustard sauce really highlighted and brought out the flavors of the pork while you can still taste all of the ingredients in the mustard sauce. The mustard sauce is like having a well balanced party in your month. What really took me over the edge is the fact that the sauce didn’t have a lot of spice which you normally find in a lot of mustard based sauces, it was actually really nice and sweet which is why it works really well with pork.
Everyone should have a bottle of Pork Barrel’s Mustard based sauce in their refrigerator. The sauce works perfectly with pork, sausages and everything. Heath and Bret have completed the trifecta of having amazing barbecue sauce products, and with their mustard based sauce they have one of the best barbecue sauce lines in the country.
