Follow Grilling With Rich:
The world of Whisky and Spirits is a complex and has many layers. Beyond the main types of Scotch; Irish, Canadian and American there are many sub types within those. Those types include rye, bourbon, single malt and more.
Being a complex drink with many layers there are three basic ways to enjoy Whisky; straight, with a splash of water to release flavors or on the rocks. However, it also goes great in cocktails including the classic Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
Review and Rating of The Macallan 12
The Macallan 12 is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky that is aged in Sherry Oak Casks and left to mature for 12 years. It is Rich Gold in color and 43% ABV. The nose has vanilla with some hints of ginger and as a result of the Sherry Oak Cask it has some sweetness and wood smoke, and all BBQ lovers know the smell of nice wood smoke! The Macallan 12 is one of the smoothest entry level Single Malt’s around, I have enjoyed the 18 before which is phenomenal but this is just as delicious in its own unique way.
I personally prefer my whisky on the rocks most of the time but this is one of the few I highly enjoy straight as well. It is incredibly smooth and easy drinking. Making it in my opinion perfect while sitting outside with friends and enjoying the day while smoking a brisket or pork butt. With its smooth finish of fruit and toffee with some spice and wood smoke it is the perfect companion to the smell of the smoker going.
