Every time I am fortunate enough to meet up with Rich in DC or elsewhere he gives me something BBQ related to use and/or review. When I was down for my first BBQ Competition the Beltway BBQ Showdown it was no different. This time Rich gave me a bottle of sauce that said very little other than the name “Salvation Sauce” and it was white.
Editors Note: We would like to thank the good folks at Firebud Brands for sending us this bottle of sauce for review. As always we at Grilling With Rich never accept payment for our reviews, to read more view our Product Review Guidelines.
If I have any major criticism of this sauce the lack of description and information on the label would be it. Simply called Salvation Sauce I was dumbfounded when I first looked at it and had to Google it for some answers before I went in to use it.
I have heard of the “Alabama White” sauce style before but the only one I knew of just because of its notoriety is the Big Bob Gibson Alabama White. (Read Rich’s Review of it here) Therefore, I was unsure of what to expect but knew that traditionally the style of sauce goes great on Chicken. With that knowledge at hand I went at it and made a grilled chicken salad with dried cranberries and apple using the sauce and a little 17th St BBQ Magic Dust.
I greatly enjoyed this new to me style of sauce, the combination of mayonnaise, vinegar, horseradish and other spices was a great blend and it went amazingly well in my chicken salad. I honestly don’t think I will ever be able to make chicken salad without it again. It really adds an interesting flavor and the spiciness of the horseradish blended greatly with the sweetness of the apples and cranberries. Another great thing is this sauce is all natural, gluten free, high fructose corn syrup free and preservative free. Add all of that together with the taste and its no wonder Salvation Sauce was a 2014 NBBQA Awards of Excellence Winner!
If you have never tried an Alabama style White Sauce I highly recommend you try one. I thoroughly enjoyed the Salvation Sauce and look forward to trying more sauces in this unique style and experimenting with it in other dishes.
