Here are the nominees for the 2015 BBQ Person of the Year!
Nominee: Brooke Orrison Lewis, The Shed BBQ and Blues Joint
Brooke Orrison Lewis was only 19 years old when she opened her first BBQ restaurant with her brother Brad, The Shed BBQ & Blues Joint in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The Shed has grown from its meager beginning to serving an average of 2,000 pounds of BBQ a day. Over the past fourteen years she has worked to create a National Sauce brand as a co-owner of The Saucery, LLC, The Shed’s sauce and marinade retail company, found on over 10,000 shelves Nationwide. The Saucery also serves as a manufacturing plant for customers proprietary sauces,dressings, rubs, and marinades. Brooke plays an active roll with The Shed’s competition team. Their most recent wins being The 2015 World Grand Champions of Memphis in May as well as holding the 1st place title for Brisket at the 2015 World Food Championships for the second year running. A few of the accomplishments accredited Brooke are: Barbecue Heroine Award(2012), Top Ten business leaders under Forty(2009), Top 50 Business Women in Mississippi(2005), under her leadership The Shed has been awarded “Fast Forty” growing businesses in Mississippi(2009&2010).
Brooke served seven years on the executive board of the Mississippi Hospitality and Restaurant Association. She actively supports The National BBQ Association and Operation BBQ Relief.
